The post box in each community works like the post box in all of the other areas of the site. To make a post in a community, you simply enter that community and click the box that says “Write a Post.” The post box will expand and you can now type your post in the box labeled “Post (required).

Tip: Tags may also be added to the body of a post by using the # before a word. See the “Tags” section to learn how tags function differently for students and teachers.

Tip: If you’re typing a particularly long post, or you get interrupted, you can always click “Save Draft” to save your work in your My Drafts.
Remember you are writing AS your MySciLife identity, not as yourself. Your post can also include a link to a project you made elsewhere on the web using free, creative tools and apps to make animations, comics, annotated images, audio recordings, etc. (See TeachersFirst's Creative Tools for MySciLife in the Resources Folder of the MySciLife Resource Library for some great tool suggestions.) Just be sure your creation does not include or show your human name. You are posting AS your identity!
Once the body of your post is written, give it a title or citation. (Titles and citations are not required). If you’d like to add an attachment, click the “Attach” tab in the post box. Click “choose file” and select the file you would like to attach to the post. Only 1 file can be attached to each post.
The following types of files can be attached to posts:
- Images: gif, jpg, jpeg, png
- Video: avi, m4v, mov, mp4, mpg, wmv
- Audio: mp3, wav
- Documents: doc, pdf, rtf, txt
If you don’t want to upload any files with your post, you’re all set: click “Post” and your post will show up in the community’s Posts. All student posts are subject to teacher approval and community and individual student moderation controls.
If you are a teacher, you can learn more about moderation. See the “Understanding & Adjusting Moderation Settings” for more information.
The “Available on Public Stream” post box controls whether or not a student’s post, once promoted or posted in the Main Stream, is accessible on the homepage of MySciLife to the general public. This checkbox is checked by default for all students who have their public sharing settings turned on.
