Sorting the Activity Feed

Sorting the Activity Feed

At the top of the Activity Feed, you’ll see a series of drop-down menus, or “filters.” You can use these menus to limit which information you see in your Activity Feed. This can be useful, because you’ll find that the Activity Feed fills up quickly, and the filters let you view items only from a particular time period, community, or student. Here’s a quick explanation of what each drop-down menu will show you.

Date: Use this filter to see items from a specific timeframe. The default is always the current day.

Tip: If you are moderating as students are working during class, set filters to “today” and for that class community to moderate on the fly as your students work!

Activity Selection: Use this filter to sort by what type of activity notices you’re looking for. The available choices are:

  1. All Activity – The default setting for the filter shows every item in the Activity Feed, with the most recent at the top.
  2. Unread Only – Shows all items that have not been previously reviewed or marked as read.
  3. Read Only – Shows all items that have been reviewed or marked as read.
Tip: Items will be marked as read if any co-teacher of the community, lead teacher, or admin reads an item
  1. Approved Only – Shows all items that are currently approved and “live.”
  2. Disapproved Only – Shows all items that are currently disapproved and not “live.”
  3. Unread & Disapproved – Shows all items currently disapproved that have not been reviewed or marked as read.
  4. Unread & Approved – Shows all items currently approved that have not been reviewed or read.
Tip: This occurs frequently when students are “Trusted” in a community because their posts are automatically approved before being reviewed by a teacher.

Tip: Certain items disappear from the Activity Feed after being reviewed or moderated by a teacher. These include new student sign-up requests, community join requests, and disapproved posts, which are sent back to the student’s draft center. For more information on changing student access to MySciLife or a particular community, see the “Manage Students (Teacher Tools)” section.

Community Selection: Choose a community from this drop-down to view all of the Activity Feed items for that community only (i.e. the students in that one class, or all of your student activity in the Main Stream). The default is “All My Communities.”

Content Type: This filter allows you to choose a specific type of content to see from the following list:

  1. All Types – Shows you everything you have moderation over
  2. Posts – Shows you all posts in your communities
  3. Identity – Shows you all student identity creation or change requests
  4. Post Comments – Shows you all student comments on posts
  5. Announcement Comments – Shows you all student comments on announcement
  6. Member Requests – Shows you new requests to join your communitys. These will disappear once you approve or disapprove them.
  7. COPPA Requests – Shows you requests to verify colleagues or verify parental consent for students under 13 to use MySciLife. These will disappear once they have been properly dealt with.

Users: This filter will allow teachers to choose individual students or to view all students or teachers in their communities.

The Go Button

Once you have set a series of filters on the Activity Feed, you can press the Go button to see your changes applied. The initial results will be displayed after a moment. If the information you’re looking for isn’t in the initial results, scroll to the end of the results to automatically load more.
