The Training Stream (Overview)
The Training Stream is a practice version of the Main Stream meant to help new teachers learn how to use MySciLife effectively. It has all the functions of the Main Stream, but it is only visible to lead teachers, teachers in professional development, and students whose teachers are in professional development. The Training Stream looks just like the Main Stream. The only indicator that the user is not viewing the live Main Stream is that the header on the page reads “Main Stream (T).”
When a teacher who is in professional development logs in, the Training Stream is the first thing they see. When administrators or lead teachers log in, they will see the Main Stream, and will need to use the toggle switch below the post box to switch to the Training Stream.
The purpose of the training stream is to act as a “sandbox” where new teachers can get experience making posts and using identities, so that they have a place to get comfortable with the features and functions of MySciLife. When a teacher in professional development shares anything from any of their class communities to the Main Stream, that item will be shared to the Training Stream rather than the Main Stream. Training Stream posts will never appear in the Public Stream.
When a new teacher is in professional development, they can still view a version of the Main Stream, but in the professional development view, the post box has been removed. New teachers are still encouraged to read and follow along with posts, comments, and responses as an observer. Users in professional development can switch between the Main Stream and the Training Stream using the toggle switch below the post box.
Lead teachers who are participating in professional development have full use of the both the Main Stream and the Training Stream.
